About Metabo
Metabo has been building power tools in Nürtingen, Germany since 1924 — and the angle grinder is what they're best known for in North American welding shops. The W 1280 is the workhorse of the catalog: 12 amps, 11,000 RPM, and the Quick wheel-change system that lets you swap wheels by hand instead of hunting for the locking pin and spanner.
The WEV 15-125 Quick adds variable speed and a slightly heavier 13.5-amp motor — the difference shows up on long polishing passes and on stainless work where you want to dial the wheel speed down to avoid bluing. The cordless lineup runs on Metabo's LiHD 18V platform, which holds runtime under load better than most competing platforms in this class.
