89 Years Of Welding Distribution
Family-owned, authorized, and stocked since 1936.

How We Got Here
Baker's Gas & Welding Supplies started in 1936 on Michigan Avenue in downtown Detroit — a single storefront supplying industrial gases and welding equipment to the auto plants, fabrication shops, and trade welders who built the city. The work was steady, the customers were skilled, and the company grew because the people running it knew the products and treated the welders who walked in the door like the experts they were.
Eighty-nine years later the model is the same. The catalog has grown to 25+ authorized manufacturers, the footprint has expanded to multiple locations and a dedicated shipping warehouse, and the website covers customers far beyond Detroit — but the staff on the phone are still welders, the brands we carry are still the ones we'd run in our own shops, and the warranty is still real because every machine ships through an authorized channel.
What We Stand For
Genuine Equipment, Real Warranty
Every machine, helmet, and consumable on our shelves is genuine, ships brand-new, and registers with the manufacturer the day we send it. We're authorized for Miller, Lincoln, Hypertherm, ESAB, Fronius, Optrel, Victor, Thermal Dynamics, Metabo, Black Stallion, CK Worldwide, and more.
Welders Answer The Phone
Our sales floor is staffed by people who weld. When you ask whether a Powermax45 is enough for half-inch plate, or whether the Multimatic 220 will handle the aluminum work you have lined up, you're talking to someone who's actually run the machines on real metal.
Stock, Ship, Support
We stock the gear we sell most so orders ship same-week, not whenever the manufacturer feels like it. Larger machines ship freight from our warehouse. Will-call pickup is available at most branches. Support continues long after the box is open.
Financing Done Right
Affirm for personal buyers, QuickSpark for businesses. Real-time decisions in most cases, with no impact to your credit to check. Section 179 tax treatment usually applies for shops adding capital equipment before year-end — ask us about stacked manufacturer rebates and financing.
