Aluminum MIG through a standard MIG gun is a fight — the wire is soft, the cable is long, and feeding through ten feet of liner usually ends in bird-nesting at the drive rolls. A spool gun puts a small 1-pound spool right at the torch handle, which reduces the feed distance to a couple of inches and eliminates the feeding problem entirely. The Spoolmate 100 plugs directly into the front of a Millermatic 211 Pro or Multimatic 220 — no parameter changes, no rewiring. For shops adding occasional aluminum work to a primarily-steel MIG machine.
